Making your start the right one. Let’s face it – trying to start your career can suck. Often, you can’t get a job without experience, and you can’t get experience without a job. So you get stuck in barely-paid internships, hoping it will lead to something slightly resembling a career. Not anymore. The Penna Academy offers you the chance to put an end to this nonsense.
Internships are all the same, right? You sort out the mail, make the tea, and get paid absolutely nothing. Well, we like to do things differently at Penna. Instead, this entry-level eight-week placement gives you the chance to build some experience, by taking on a range of live client work and personal projects.
We believe that learning should be hands-on. What better way to do that than offer an in-depth programme to recent graduates? You’ll rotate around each area of our business for a couple of weeks before joining a specific area in our business - getting involved from day one and learning by doing. That way, you’ll gain the confidence to excel in your career.
I joined Penna on the graduate scheme back in 2013. I’d just graduated with a degree in HR Management and was really keen to get into a client-facing role. After rotating around various business areas, I came into the Client Partner team. It’s essentially the company’s relationship management division. We’re in charge of introducing new solutions to clients. I absolutely loved the variety and the amount of responsibility I was given from the start – working with existing clients and getting involved in pitches. I’ve been in the team since and have progressed to become a Lead Client Partner.
After graduating in Business Management, I spent two years playing cricket in Australia. When I got back, I wanted a job that felt like the right fit for me. Penna’s graduate scheme gave me both flexibility and a great culture. I originally started in the Client Partner team, where I got to manage a range of client relationships. I have also been involved in a variety of internal projects, which was a great chance for me to lead on projects. After some time, I moved into our delivery team, and I’m thoroughly enjoying my new role.
The Penna Graduate Scheme immediately caught my eye, as it was a chance to try a wide variety of roles. I was really impressed with the level of responsibility I was given from day one, and immediately became involved in many interesting projects which I could make a valuable contribution to. It’s a fantastic place to start your career, from the opportunities it presents within a genuinely fun and friendly environment. After the graduate scheme, I joined the Public Sector Executive Search practice, and have since progressed to become a Consultant. I couldn’t recommend Penna enough – come and join the ‘Penna Family’!
I’ve been in my role as a Graduate Client Partner for eight months now, and I’m still excited by the range of opportunities that are helping me develop into my role here.
I was quickly given responsibility to represent the brand with external partners, and this has empowered me to take the initiative and be accountable in what I do.
So we’re known mostly for our work with local government and higher education sector but we’ve also got some other amazing clients. Here’s just a few to get you started.
